A Sunday Drive Around Caracas With The Porsche Club

A few months ago I visited Caracas, Venezuela. I felt sensitive because of the difficult political and economic situation of the country but was still curious to visit some friends I know from Instagram. Ivan from BlaubachMotors invited me over for a Sunday ride to the Hacienda Santa Teresa, where I met the team of Porsche Club Venezuela.

The Porsche club was founded in the 50’s but managed to have legal form in January of this year. But already in 2011, Porsche owners and friends from the Porsche Club in Venezuela made a big progress: they achieved recognition for their club from the Porsche AG here in Germany.

Today, the club has more than 120 cars around the country. Some of the most significant cars in the club are Porsches like a 356 Cabrio, 356 pre-A, a 930 Turbo, a 911 Cabrio Turbo Look, a 964 Turbo 3.6, a 993 Carrera 3.8 and 993 Turbo. Taking into account the size of the country, the quantity and quality of existing cars on the market is quite impressive.

Normally the club has meetings once at least every 15 days and long rides one or two times a year. For these events, the club is always trying to integrate owners from abroad as well. Some of their own cars have been brought to events in the USA and Europe. During the past summer, they had a 356 in France being part of a rally.

One interesting anecdote I heard at the club that highlights their ongoing relationship with the vehicles throughout the years is about a 365 A from 1959. Imported to the country in the same year, the tracking of the car has been lost for more than 40 years until it was discovered abandoned in a farm building in 2014.

The car was rescued by a Porsche Club member, who’s taken care of its complete restoration from 2015 until 2016. He located the Kardex of the car through Porsche AG and managed to bring the car to its original factory state.

Once the restoration of the car was completed, it was possible to find the son of the original owner, who’s been very moved to see the car in its original factory state and be reunited with a vehicle that he associated so many memories with.

Unfortunately, I did not have the time to see and photograph all these amazing cars. Only seven of the members attended the Sunday ride, I have to say that my favourites were the 993 Turbo and the silver 996 Carrera.

Thanks to all the team of the Porsche Club Venezuela!

It may sound like a big cliche, but Paris is a city that I love. it has fascinating architecture, part of which are the brutalist buildings of the 70s that many Parisians hate. The viper is a car that I love since I was a child. I remember it being on the cover of one of my very first Motor Trend magazines, in movies, and music videos.

A significant coincidence with a DMC12-DeLorean

I spent the first days of October 2015 exploring Berlin for the first time. I was biking in Mitte, on Axel-Springer-Straße, and all of a sudden a voice in my head urges me to look up to my right and at that moment I see a very beautiful 1981 DMC-12 DeLorean standing right in the middle of the park of the Axel-Springer building. What a coincidence to see one of my favorite cars there, waiting for me to photograph it and of course admire this piece of history that I’m sure we all know.
